The herring barrel was produced in millions along the Norwegian coastline.
The art of coopering is diminishing but at Tønnegarden the production is going at full speed.
With a new workshop up and running, the family offers a unique experience in learning how barrels are made. You are also welcome to taste delicious goods baked in the stone oven.
Father and son Jostein and Oddvar Gangstø are coopers who learned the craft from older generations. Their ambition is to ensure the continued existence of the craft by teaching new generations at Tønnegarden.
