Cheese making ÉCONOMUSÉE® de la fromagerie

Cheese making ÉCONOMUSÉE® de la fromagerie

Come for a typically Madelinot taste experience! Discover why Pied-de-Vent cheeses are so popular. Meet the dedicated artisans and learn what is involved in a typical day in the life of a cheese maker. Test your knowledge of cheese and see both vintage and modern cheese making tools. Above all, treat yourself to a gourmet experience savouring these Island cheeses.

Picturesquely named cheeses

Located in the enchanting surroundings of the Magdalen Islands, artisans Jérémie and Lucie Arseneau and the whole production team invite you to come and enjoy a unique sensory experience: cheeses made from Canadienne cow milk.

Because the Pied-de-Vent herd feeds only on varieties of chemical fertiliser/pesticide-free hay and fodder available on the Magdalen Islands, the cows’ milk imparts a unique flavour to the Pied-de-Vent cheese, reminiscent of the wind, ocean spray and the very soil of the Islands.

Allow yourself to be enticed by Tomme de Demoiselles, Pied-de-Vent and the Meuleron! Soft cheese, semi-firm curd cheese, cheddar cheese curds and fresh Island cream…so many tasty products—all made onsite.

A pastoral setting

The archipelago of the Îles de la Madeleine is located in the middle of the Gulf of St-Lawrence. It comprises about a dozen islands, six of which are interconnected by long, thin, sand dunes. The Island chain is shaped like an extended fishhook stretching over a distance of 65 km.

Visitor arriving on the Îles de la Madeleine face an immediate and total change in scenery. The islands look like tiny landmasses enlivened by brilliant green valleys, spectacular white sandy beaches, deep red cliffs and the countless shades of blue and green of the ever-present sea. In addition, the islanders are renowned for their warm and friendly welcome (http://www.tourismeilesdelamadeleine.com).

Take advantage of your stay and visit the two other ÉCONOMUSÉE® that showcase important facets of the Magdalen Islands heritage: the hard smoked herring ÉCONOMUSÉE® (www.fumoirdantan.com) and the sand sculpture ÉCONOMUSÉE® (www.artisansdusable.com).
