Giving a heart to stone
In December, 2013, brothers Heini and Høgni Tausen bought the firm Grótvirkið í Skopun. It is a stone quarry and stonemasonry where huge rocks are converted into tombstones, tables, and small objects for everyday use.
The artisans are charming young men who know their craft and are interested in communicating their history and knowledge. They enjoy receiving visitors, and have many ideas about developing concepts and products.
The story of the Faroese “stone culture” has yet to be told, but this Economusée—North Atlantic Basalt, will help change that.
