Leir 7 produces ceramics from Icelandic raw material that comes from the Ytri-Fagridalur farm in the Dalir region of West Iceland. Leir 7 is currently the only ceramic workshop to use Icelandic clay. Slip casting is the main technique used to produce ceramics at Leir 7, using plaster moulds. After much experimentation Sigriour Erla has developed a clay body that stands up well to the task. She has collaborated with other designers in creating many of the products produced at this workshop. From the time she made her first acquaintance with the Fagridalur clay, she has been guided by a belief that to succeed in her work, she must ask questions and listen for the answers. She works in close cooperation with the clay, which she calls Steinólfur in honour of a good man.
Feel free to drop in during other times if someone is present. In agreement with Leir 7, groups can have a guided tour with the artisans Sigriour Erlar.
